VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on May 3 at the post home.

Senior Vice President Christa Kattner presided at the session. Department newsletters 9 and 10 were read and filed for action.

Buddy Poppy weekend was held at Redner's the weekend of May 8-10. The Poppy Queen is Cienna Padora and her court will be Sofia Simchak, Josephine Simchak and Marissa Lilly.

The Poppy King is Jacob Ellis and his court will be Jesse Ellis.

A bloodmobile in April was held at the post, co-sponsored by the post and auxiliary.

The annual Loyalty Day Program, held May 1, was a success.

Deezines has donated a wreath, which will be placed in the Nesquehoning Creek during Memorial Day Services.

District delegates for the May 17 Convention at East Stroudsburg are: Ellen Driesbach, Maureen Hirochek, Christa Kattner and Anne Paulakovich.

Alternates are: Missy Hascher, Corrine Kattner, Mary Arieta and Pat Ockenhouse.

Delegates for the Department Convention to be held in Gettysburg June 17-20 are Maureen Hirochek and Christa Kattner.

Alternates are Mary Arieta and Missy Hascher.

Delegates for the National Convention to be held in Pittsburgh July 18-22 are Mary Arieta and Missy Hascher, with Christa Kattner and Maureen Hirochek serving as alternates.

A donation was made to the Department President's Gift Fund.

Joint Installation of Officers will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Officers should be present by 6:30.

The outlying cemetery services will be held on Sunday.

The contingent will begin at noon with the Knauf Memorial on the Broad Mountain and follow their usual route, ending at the Hauto Memorial.

The annual Memorial Day Parade and services will be held on Monday.

Parade participants are to form at the recreation center at 8 a.m.

The parade will begin promptly at 8:30.

Officers for the 2015-16 are: president, Cheri Santore; senior vice president, Christa Kattner; junior vice president, Ellen Driesbach; treasurer, Maureen Hirochek; chaplain, Missy Hascher; conductress, Holly McCole, and Patricia Ockenhouse, guard.

Trustees are Mary Arieta, Anne Paulakovich and Missy Hascher.

Appointed officers will be named by the president before installation.

The next regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. June 14 at the post home.

All members are encouraged to attend.
