Three cited in McAdoo dumpster incident
McAdoo police have cited three individuals who were caught placing trash in a private dumpster.
An officer was on patrol on April 19 when he was stopped by a motorist who reported seeing the occupants of a green minivan placing five trash bags in the dumpster located at the Via Nuova Restuarant. She followed the van until it was parked at 27 S. Lincoln St. and was able to provide a description and license plate number.
The registration came back to Michael Belson and Martin Garvey, both of 425 S. Kennedy Drive.
When the officer went to Lincoln Street, he spoke with Ann MacMillian, who said her son, Belson, had been driving the van. She admitted to being a passenger but said she was unaware of why he stopped at the restaurant's dumpster.
She then said she told her son not to place the trash in the dumpster and denied any connection to the trash bags.
The officer asked if she would go in the house and ask her son to come outside. MacMillian went in, came back a short time later and said her son was "scared" and left.
The officer then went to the restaurant and spoke with the owner, who said the dumpster had just been emptied and he had only placed two bags in it since then. There were seven bags in the dumpster. Five had yellow ties. The other two did not and were identified as those from the restaurant.
The officer checked the five bags and found letters, envelopes and mail addressed to Belson, Garvey and MacMillian.
All three were cited for trespass, illegal dumping and theft of services.
