Tamaqua man cited for incident

Tamaqua police have cited Elias Cortes, 24, of 40 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, following an incident on May 25.

An officer was monitoring traffic at 12:30 a.m. in the vicinity of the Five Points intersection when he heard a loud male voice.

The noise was coming from Cortes, who was crossing North Railroad Street, walking west to east. The language he was using was obscene and he was threatening to kill someone. As he crossed on to Mauch Chunk Street, Cortes accosted a woman on the sidewalk and began yelling in her face. The officer then intervened.

Cortes began walking away, then turned, began recording the officer and emptied his pockets on to a bench on the sidewalk. Those contents included a green, leafy substance.

He was cited for possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct.
