Attempt to steal copper fails

State police at the Lehighton barracks are investigating a criminal mischief incident whereby someone tried to steal numerous rolls of copper wire from the PPL Electric Plant site located at 1145 Little Gap Road, Lower Towamensing Township.

The incident happened between 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 and 6:15 a.m. Nov. 12.

Police said unknown criminals were able to gain entry to the property by cutting and removing a locked chain on the main gate. Police said the criminals were unsuccessful in trying to remove the copper, but did remove a section of the fence located at the eastern part of the property before fleeing the scene undetected.
