Driver faces charges in Route 903 crash
A driver was charged following a one-vehicle crash in which she jumped out of her vehicle while losing control. The crash occurred about 5:03 p.m. on Nov. 18 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.
State police at Lehighton said Nicole M. Neubauer, 35, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra on Fawn Road and made a left turn onto Route 903 near the Shell Service Station.
At some point during the turn the gas pedal became struck causing Neubauer to make a wide turn. The vehicle left the road and entered a grassy shoulder area.
The vehicle continued to travel southeast until it struck a chain link metal fence.
After striking the fence Neubauer was unable to stop the vehicle and it continued to travel southward on the grassy shoulder area until it approached a small embankment area where it struck a metal pole holding up a sign for the service station.
Sometime during this point Neubauer, fearing for her life, jumped from the vehicle, troopers said.
The GMC continued to head southward on the shoulder area, across the entrance to the service station and re-entered the grassy shoulder area where it then struck a wooden fence and came to final rest.
Troopers said a vehicle malfunction was found. Neubauer was not injured and found not to be wearing a seat belt.
Also, the vehicle's inspection was found to be expired. Troopers said charges will be filed against Neubauer.
