2 crashes on I-81 investigated
State police at Frackville reported investigating two crashes along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County, both occurring on Friday and both involving deer.
At 5:31 p.m. William E. Emery Jr., 63, of West Newbury, Massachusetts, was driving a 2011 Subaru Forester southbound in Foster Township when a deer entered the road in front of him. He was unable to avoid striking the animal. Emery was able to pull to the side of the road. He was not injured but his vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
The second crash occurred about 11:37 p.m. in Delano Township. Troopers said Paul N,. Norris, 21, of Hopewell, Virginia, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic in the left lane northbound when he swerved to avoid a deer that entered the road in front of him. Norris lost control, crossed over the right lane and struck the guard rail along the east berm. Norris was not injured but the Sonic had to be towed from the scene.
Troopers said Norris was cited for the crash.
