Schuylkill crashes investigated

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating the following crashes occurring on Schuylkill County roads.

A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:06 p.m. Nov. 20 along Route 61, near the Cressona Mall entrance, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Jeffrey L. Zipp, 31, of Minersville, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee northbound when he fell asleep.

The Jeep drifted into the median and struck the guide rail with its front bumper. After impact the Jeep spun clockwise across the southbound lane and came to rest along the southbound shoulder.

Zipp was not injured but the Jeep sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene. Zipp was cited for careless driving.

A hit-and-run crash was reported at 4:29 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Cressona Mall. A vehicle was backing out of a parking spot in the mall and struck the front end of a parked 2013 Kia Soul.

The owner of the Kia approached the driver of the other vehicle and asked for his information. At this point the other driver fled the scene northbound on Route 61. The hit-and-run vehicle is a black, four-door sedan with an "Ed's U Save" license plate on the front.

A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:15 p.m. on Friday along Route 895 in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Judith A. Shalata, 56, of Nanticoke, was driving a 2013 Nissan Rouge eastbound when she struck a deer that had entered the road in front of her. After impact the Rouge was pulled onto the shoulder by Shalata. Shalata was not injured.

A one-vehicle crash occurred at 8:13 p.m. Nov. 17 along Panther Valley Road, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Tyler J. Hinkle, 22, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2014 Subaru Legacy westbound when the vehicle went onto the berm where the left front tire struck a boulder.

After impact the Legacy re-entered the road and came to rest facing west on the road. Hinkle was not injured but the Legacy was towed from the scene.

Troopers cited Hinkle for the crash.
