Carbon man faces charges in DUI case

A Carbon County man faces charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence for his involvement in a two-car crash.

Township police said that on May 5 at 2:15 p.m., a two-car crash occurred on Route 443 near 84 Lumber.

A box truck driven by Steven Sparrow, 46, of Albrightsville, rear-ended a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Louis Yelito, of Nesquehoning.

Yelito was injured in the accident.

As a result of the investigation, Sparrow has been charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, a felony; driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, a misdemeanor; driving under the influence of a controlled substance; a misdemeanor; reckless driving, a summary offense; and careless driving, a summary offense.

Sparrow was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Kosciolek on Wednesday, and released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7.
