Prothonotary's report
A total of 306 cases were started in September in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 33; custody complaints, 19; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 14; complaints in ejectment, 10; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 15; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 37; quiet title action, 1; complaints in replevin, 2; judgments, 164; miscellaneous cases, 3; paternity complaint, 1; and stipulation/waiver of liens, 1. The office staff also received and processed 66 applications for U.S. passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $32,044.41 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $26,737.80; interest income $1.23; custody fees, $700; data processing fees, $4,555.38; PFA Surcharge, courts, $25; PFA surcharge, Sheriff; $25; and remote access fees, $900.
The prothonotary also remitted $4,355.23 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $96 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,245 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
