Intoxicated man cited in assault
A Tamaqua man was cited following a domestic incident in the borough on Sept. 24.
Officers were dispatched to 307 Orwigsburg St. at 2:31 a.m. for a disturbance. On scene, they spoke with a visibly intoxicated Kyle Martin, 24, who said he was upset because his girlfriend "wasn't doing her part around the house." The girlfriend and three witnesses all said the argument was verbal. Martin agreed to go to bed and officers left the home.
At 3:18 a.m., police were again dispatched to Orwigsburg Street. This time, the girlfriend said Martin came downstairs, screamed at her, struck her in the face and dragged her from the couch, across the living room floor. When one of the other three people in the home tried to call 911, Martin smashed her cellphone.
The girlfriend refused to give a written statement once officers said they were arresting Martin, but the other three witnesses did provide statements about the assault.
Martin was arrested and charged with simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief. He was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
