Driver cited in Schuylkill crash

One of two drivers involved in a collision at 12:40 p.m. Oct. 2 at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Westwood Road in Norwegian Township, Schuylkill County, was cited.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Eileen J. Blackwell, 58, of Frackville, was driving a 2010 GMC Canyon pickup eastbound on East Maple Avenue while Anna M. Mahalsky, 76, of Saint Clair, was driving a 1996 Buick Park Avenue sedan northbound on Westwood Road. At the intersection, Mahalsky failed to stop for a stop sign and attempted to make a left turn onto East Maple. In the process the front of her car struck the front of the Canyon.

Mahalsky and her passenger, Carl P. Martician, 71, of Saint Clair, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville. Neither Blackwell nor her passenger, Sarah Blackwell, 24, Frackville, were injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Troopers cited Mahalsky for stop signs and yield signs.
