Summit Hill Couple married 55 years

Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Sommers of Summit Hill recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They were married by the late Monsignor Francis Haley at St. Joseph's Church in Summit Hill on Sept. 24, 1960.

Mrs. Sommers is the former Elizabeth "Liz" Matta, daughter of the late Joseph and Jean Matta of Lansford. Her husband is the son of the late Patsy and Katie Sommers of Summit Hill.

The couple has three children: Alex Sommers and Jeremy Sommers of Summit Hill, and Patricia Sommers of Skippack. They also have one grandson, the late Nicholas Allesch of Coaldale.

Attendants at the wedding included Carol Harvan, formerly of Lansford; Liz's sister, Jean Coniglio of Nesquehoning; and Edward Sommers.

A family gathering was held to celebrate the occasion.
