Support Weaver for district attorney

Dear Editor:

On Nov. 3, the voters of Carbon County will be electing a new district attorney. This is an enormous opportunity. Carbon County has not had a contested election for district attorney in over 23 years. I am supporting Adam Weaver for district attorney of Carbon County. Weaver has stood up for the working poor, representing people in financial distress in his private practice. He has a proven track record of commitment to fighting for the most vulnerable in our society.

I am concerned about the safety of our citizens and the negative impact that crime, drug addiction and mental illness have on our county. We are in the midst of a drug epidemic that is killing our youth. Drug addiction is at the root of most of the crimes perpetrated in Carbon County.

In these times of slow economic recovery, compounded with effects of prison overcrowding, we need a district attorney with the experience and foresight to prosecute and incarcerate these offenders who pose the most risk to public safety. At the same time we need a district attorney who has the experience and foresight to recognize the value in crime prevention programs, substance abuse treatment and mentally ill offender programs for those who are assessed and deemed appropriate for community supervision.

Weaver has a streak of intellectual curiosity that allows him to fully research, internalize and act confidently on complex issues. As district attorney, Weaver, will be proactive and collaborative. He has what it takes to find creative yet sound solutions to our crime problems. Adam Weaver wants to refocus the District Attorney’s Office, and he has the knowledge and background to make it happen.

On Nov. 3, cast your vote for Adam Weaver for district attorney of Carbon County.
