At Mauch Chunk Opera House

Published October 29. 2015 04:00PM

On Nov. 5 Nikki Lane, the "First Lady of Outlaw Country," makes her debut at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe.

Lane grew up in South Carolina and loved her mom's Motown records and her dad's country cassettes, but she'd also sneak to see alt-rock and punk shows.

All those influences come through on her new album, "All or Nothin'," which was produced by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach.

With songs that crucify ex-boyfriends, celebrate one-night stands and proclaim that it's "always the right time to do the wrong thing," Lane comes across like a modern-era Wanda Jackson.

"My songs always paint a pretty clear picture of what's been going on in my life."

On Nov. 6 it's the music of Simon & Garfunkel

AJ Swearingen and Kelli re-create the music, memories and magic of the most famous folk-rock duo of our time.

Swearingen has been performing this music for 20 years with mastery of Paul Simon's intricate guitar playing. His deep baritone blends perfectly against Kelli's angelic vocals, which invoke a true sound in the spirit of Art Garfunkel.

The duo has been performing music together since 2010. Together and separately they have shared the stage with Kenny Rogers, Crystal Gayle, Livingston Taylor, John McCutcheon and more.

Nov. 7 "The Band" Band returns with its Last Waltz Celebration Concert. The original Band's final performance in San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom set the standard by which all farewell concerts are measured. Celebrate that great night back in 1976.

The Last Waltz Celebration features a three-piece horn section, as well as the full five pieces of the "The Band" Band.

As with the original Last Waltz, when Bill Graham catered the show to acknowledge a historic event, the opera house will serve hors d'oeuvre courtesy of 14 Acre Farm.

Doors open for all shows at 7 p.m. Showtime is 8. Tickets are available by calling 570-325-0249 and online at www.mcohjt.com; at Soundcheck Records in downtown Jim Thorpe at 570-325-4009; and at the opera house on the day of the show.

Parking is available and free after 5 p.m. at the Carbon County lot behind the train station.
