Vote Gerhard for Carbon County commissioner

These days the political stage - Congress in particular - can seem more interested in party lines than the issues themselves, and we in small-town America quickly learn that we are not immune.

Though I would like to express my satisfaction with all the incumbent board of commissioners, I would be remiss if I did not specifically address my support for Commissioner Tom Gerhard.

As a lifelong, outspoken Democrat and Jim Thorpe business owner for 29 years, I recently found myself contending with issues regarding Jim Thorpe's downtown business district. With no foreseeable solution, it was Tom Gerhard who stood by my side, going above and beyond to resolve the issue as though our party affiliations were nonexistent.

Tom Gerhard is a candidate who truly puts the needs of the people first, and I urge other fellow Democrats who may, themselves, be blinded by party lines, to see past these invisible ties and re-elect Tom Gerhard as commissioner in addition to their support of our wonderful Commissioner Bill O'Gurek.

Together, their bipartisanship is a testament to how government should be run.
