Wins Media Excellence Award

Former Times News intern Vinny Vella has won the Dow Jones News Fund Alumni Award for Media Excellence.

Vella, who is currently a news reporter for the Philadelphia Daily News, was one of six to receive the award that honors “outstanding media leaders who break boundaries, promote innovation in the newsroom, and mentor and inspire the next generation of journalists.”

The award was presented Oct. 9 at the News Corps Building in New York City.

Vella, 25, is a graduate of Marian Catholic High School and LaSalle University. He is the son of Vincent and Linda Vella.
