Carbon ATV driver cited in Tamaqua

Published September 02. 2015 04:00PM

A Lansford juvenile was cited by Tamaqua police after an all-terrain vehicle incident on Aug. 14.

A police officer was on patrol at 2:27 p.m. when he saw a yellow, three-wheel ATV traveling from Boyer's Market lot onto West Spruce Street. When the ATV driver saw the police cruiser, he sped up and turned onto River Street, almost flipping over. He then exited onto Route 309, traveling south in the northbound lane until reaching the Speedway station.

The ATV cut through the station's parking lot and headed for a dirt road. As the vehicle traveled on the dirt road the driver headed into a creek, where he crashed.

Neither the 17-year-old driver, nor his 15-year-old passenger, also from Lansford, were injured. The teens were released into the custody of their respective parents. The ATV was impounded and the driver was cited for numerous traffic violations.
