Gabriel Chamber Ensemble opens 26th season Sunday
The Gabriel Chamber Ensemble will open its 26th season at 3 p.m. Sunday with a concert featuring Xinyue Zhang, a 13-year-old pianist from Lancaster.
The concert will take place at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 252 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven.
The Gabriel Chambler Ensemble - Simon Maurer, violin; Agnes Maurer, viola; and Gerall Hieser, cello - will be joined by Barbara Jaffe on violin and Xun Pan on piano.
The concert will include works by Mendelssohn, Gershwin, Piazzolla, Shostakovich and Chopin.
Zhang gave her premiere solo piano recital in 2012 when she was 10 years old, making history as the youngest pianist to give a solo concert in her native town of Suzhou City, China. Since then she has performed solo concerts in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Turkey and the United States.
Zhang has won many piano competitions in China and the United States. She came to the U.S. in January and is currently an eighth-grade student at Lancaster Mennonite School in Lancaster.
She studies piano with Dr. Pan at the Precollege Music Division program at Millersville University.
The Gabriel Chamber Ensemble is a nonprofit professional chamber music ensemble.
Concerts are made possible through corporate and private donations, including grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Schuylkill Area Community Foundation and M&T Foundation.
