The answer is not more sidewalks
The answer is not more sidewalks
Dear Editor,
The answer is NOT sidewalks all around, imposed upon every Lehighton resident. It is RULES!
Rules we “elders” of the community learned while in grade school, who, in growing up, were taught by teachers AND parents how to walk streets safely!
Now, it seems those rules have been forgotten, lost by the wayside, and even adults, young and old, are foolish enough to walk on the wrong side of the street with their ears plugged up by electronics, whereby they cannot even HEAR a vehicle approaching them from behind, and they surely cannot see it.
Upon being hit by a vehicle, it is then the driver’s fault!
Even people walking in twos and threes on the wrong side think the rules don’t apply to them. I fear for the infants and children being pushed in strollers, etc., by these people, putting children at risk the way they do.
Let the rules be taught again, and let our police officers support the common-sense rules that should be taken seriously.
Let our officers stop those people, explain the rules of correct and safe street walking, and then, if they still cannot understand, let them pay a fine for walking on the wrong side of the street and out into the middle of the road.
Sidewalks are not the answer; rules were made to live by.
Now, I must mention our 150th celebration, and the possibility of a donation by anyone interested. Are we to contact the people in charge by Internet?
Do you not know there are people out here in the real world who may not have a computer, or if they have, cannot afford Internet? How then might we make contact?
They have no postal address. I still believe in our faithful United States Postal Service! Good luck with your Internet donations.
