N'western boys & girls soccer teams score wins

Northwestern boys and girls soccer teams picked up Colonial League wins on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern managed to pull out a 4-0 shutout win over Salisbury in Colonial League action.

Jonathan Haaf, Bradley Shafer, Keegan Coffield and Andrew Goodolf all had goals for the winners, while goalkeeper Kyle Bellhorn had four saves in net for the Tigers (7-2, 4-1).

Northwestern held a 13-9 advantage in shots on goal, with Tyler Keller snaring nine saves for the Falcons.

Bangor-Palmerton

Bangor used four second half goals to cruise to a 7-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Rio Kapur scored the Blue Bombers' lone goal.

Nazareth-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley and Nazareth ended up in a 2-2 tie after double overtime in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Devon Woltal and Jacob Clifford scored the goals for the Bears, while Timmy Covart and Zac Madiera were credited with the assists.

PV goalkeeper Brad Brickman finished with 13 saves.

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

The Roughies and Bulldogs battled to a 1-1 tie in a Colonial League match.

No other information was available.

GIRLS SOCCER

Northern Lehigh-Catasauqua

Catasauqua's Amy Huber scored the game-winning goal 42 seconds into the start of the first overtime to pull out a 2-1 win over Northern Lehigh.

Jade Biviano assisted on the play for the winners, while teammate Hanasia Jenkins scored the team's first goal.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Jill Olewine scored off an assist from Tiff Yesik to send the game into the extra session.

In a game that saw Catty outshoot the Bulldogs 13-9, Nolehi goalie Meghan Handwerk totaled eight saves.

Salisbury-Northwestern

Lydia Danner helped spark Northwestern to a 3-1 Colonial League win over visiting Salisbury with a goal in each half.

Abby Chisdak chipped in with a goal and an assist for NW, while teammates Sara Hathaway and Mac Diver were both credited with assists.

Palmerton-Bangor

Bangor ran away with a 9-2 Colonial League victory over visiting Palmerton.

Monica Wood scored both of the Bombers' goals in the first half.

Weatherly-Minersville

Minersville cruised to a 13-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

The Wreckers' Tina Caravella ruined a chance of a Minersville shutout with a second half goal.

Lehighton-No. Schuylkill

The Indians used four goals by Rajah Quinones giving the Indians their first division win in Schuylkill League play.

Amanda Matjhisen also had two goals for Lehighton.

CROSS COUNTRY

No. Lehigh-Northwestern-

Palmerton-No. Dame GP- Palisades-Saucon Vy-Moravian Aca.

Northwestern girls had a perfect 4-0 on the day at a Colonial League meet at Moravian Academy.

The Northwestern and Northern Lehigh boys' ended up 2-2, while the Lady Bulldogs finished 1-3 and the Palmerton boys ended up 1-2.

The Bulldogs' Gavin Kemery and the Bombers' Zach Svetik finished in second and third respectively, while the Tigers' Phillip Castrine grabbed a team-best 11th.

Northwestern's Molly Tarvin, Madeline Consuelos, Abigail Supplee and Hannah Herzon grabbed first, second, fourth and fifth respectively. Sara Hunsickers posted a Bulldogs' best with an 18th place.

Pleasant Valley-PM East- PM West-Central Catholic- Whitehall-Emmaus

In an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference showdown in Emmaus, Pleasant Valley went a combined 2-4.

The Bears were only victorious against Whitehall with a 22-33 win, while the Lady Bears also posted a victory against the Zephyrs, 25-30.

Despite the 1-2 record for his Bears' squad, Seth Savin was the first runner to cross the finish line in a time of 16:50. Teammate Gabe Sullivan took seventh.

Lizz Eberhart led the Lady Bears with a fourth place finish, while teammate Jenn Mickens crossed the line in seventh.

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Lehighton got the best of Pine Grove for a 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 Schuylkill League victory.

Katie Higgins sparked the Indians' attack with 21 kills, 15 digs and three aces, while Tori Eads-Rodriguez finished with 26 assists, five kills and three aces.

Alyssa Jordan (10 digs, four kills) and Andrea Schafer (10 digs) also contributed in the win for Lehighton (4-3).

North Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe came out on top with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

Alexandra McGinley led the Olympians with 15 digs, while Erin Shigo (six aces) and Jillian Peterson (three kills) chipped in on the win.

Marian-Pottsville

Marian swept through Pottsville, prevailing 25-8, 25-13, and 25-17.

Courtney McCall led the Fillies with 28 assists in the game, while also contributing eight digs.

Maureen Kloap had 11 kills, four aces and six digs, Danielle Spillman chipped in 12 digs, Abigail Stankiewitch also had 11 kills and Jasmine Mooney had six kills and four digs.

Panther Valley-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain recorded a 25-15, 25-9, 25-22 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

The Panthers' Jamey Mikovich finished with 15 digs, eight kills and five blocks, while Chloe Markovich added 11 service points, three aces and three kills.

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Pleasant Valley continued its winning ways with a 25-9, 25-21, and 25-10 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Dieruff.

Noel Kelly led the Bears' offense with 10 kills, seven aces and three digs, while Sara Kron had seven kills and a block.

Alexis Richy contributed 12 assists, while teammate Sofia Janak had 11 assists, three digs and two aces.

Veronica Roberts chipped in with five kills for Pleasant Valley (11-2-2; 5-1).

Lourdes Regional-Tamaqua

Tamaqua rebounded after a first game letdown to come back and win the next three to score a 17-25, 25-9, 25-9, 25-18 win over Lourdes Regional.

Carly Kosciolek paced the Blue Raiders with 11 kills and four blocks, while Paige Triano added 17 assists.

Teammates Deidra Ressler (six kills, three blocks) and Alexis Baddick (five kills, four aces, two digs) contributed to the victory.

GOLF

Saucon Valley-Palmerton

Saucon Valley's Brenden Gertz fired a medalist round 75 to lead the Panthers to a 409-451 Colonial League golf win.

Thomas Coakley followed Gertz with an impressive 77. For the Blue Bombers, Jon Schwartz finished with an 83.

For the Bears, Cody Scully put together a low round of 83.
