Three cited for trespassing
Three men were cited for trespassing after they were found in an active mining zone. The property is owned by BET Associates IV and is located at the northern edge of Tamaqua.
BET officials were notified of a large amount of smoke coming from the northwest corner of their property at 8:45 a.m. March 23. The safety director checked on the smoke and found three men with a campfire and notified Tamaqua police.
The three men were identified as Angelo Maldonado, 26, of 305 E. Union St., and Richard Cowley, 32, of 116 Washington St., both of Tamaqua; and Gary Scott, 29, of 135 E. High St., Coaldale.
The men said they were just camping out overnight. They were reminded the property is an active mining zone, posted against trespassing and gated at various locations.
