Mahoning retail theft leads to drug arrest

A retail theft at the Walmart in Mahoning Township on Wednesday has led to the arrest of a homeless woman.

At 12:56 p.m., township police were dispatched to a retail theft at the store, where the man involved jumped over a guardrail and fled down an embankment

Before the theft, police checked the car he arrived in. They seized wax packets, syringes, and merchandise stolen from Walmart.

The driver of the vehicle, Tonia Girard, 29, homeless, formerly of Coaldale, has been charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; retail theft; and driving under suspension.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 20.
