Woman charged in December crash

Coaldale Police have filed charges in connection with a crash on Dec. 21, 2015, that injured one woman and damaged a home.

Nicole J. Schiano, 35, of 13 W. Bertsch St., Lansford, was driving a Toyota Corolla east on Route 209 through Coaldale, at 7:18 a.m., when she lost control. The car swerved across the westbound lane, returned to the eastbound lane, then went off the road, through a front yard and driveway before striking a home at 520 W. Water St.

Schiano was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital Campus in Coaldale where she was treated for her injuries. Results of blood tests taken at the time show she had amphetamine, methamphetamine, cocaine and oxycodone in her system.

She has been charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving and driving at an unsafe speed.
