Driver cited after crash in Ross

Alex J. Steigerwalt, 18, of Palmerton, was cited for failure to drive a vehicle at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 4:05 p.m. July 31 on the Kunkletown Road in Ross Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was not injured in the crash, which happened when he was eastbound in a 2004 Saturn Ion, approaching the intersection of Weir Lake Road. Police said Steigerwalt was distracted when he was traveling too fast for wet conditions, causing the vehicle to veer off the eastbound lane and leave the roadway.

The vehicle traveled approximately 150 feet before striking a utility pole with its front end.

The vehicle sustained heavy front end damages and was towed from the scene.
