Man charged with choking girlfriend

Andrew Bensinger, 29, of Catawissa Street, Tamaqua, was cited following an argument with his girlfriend on July 25.

Tamaqua police were called to the Bensinger home at 9:01 a.m. and spoke to the victim, who said the couple was arguing about cellphones when Bensinger pushed her onto a bed and grabbed her around the neck in a choke hold. She was able to get free and dial 9-1-1.

Bensinger was cited for simple assault and harassment.
