Man cited after paraphernalia is found

Tamaqua police cited Shane Evans, 29, ofSpruce Street, Tamaqua, after an incident Aug. 16 on Catawissa Street.

An officer on patrol at 11:30 p.m. noticed a blue Subaru parked next to the Bungalow Pool with Evans sitting in the driver's seat. When asked what he was doing in the area when the pool is closed, Evans said he was making phone calls and often went there to clear his head.

Asked to show the officer his hands, which were not in the open, Evans said he had no illegal substances and offered permission to search the car.

The officer also conducted a pat-down search and found a cylindrical object in the man's right front pocket. Although told it was only a pen, the object turned out to be a hypodermic needle.

Evans was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
