Man faces charges after traffic stop

A Tamaqua man faces charges after a traffic stop in the borough on Aug. 16.

An officer on patrol spotted a 2001 Buick with an expired registration in the area of Washington and Clay streets at 2:27 a.m. He stopped the car and identified the driver as John T. Stapleton, 54, ofEast Broad Street.

Stapleton was unable to produce a driver's license, registration or insurance cards and appeared to have been drinking. He admitted to the officer that he should not have been driving. He was transported to a Pottsville hospital for blood tests.

Charges are pending the results of those tests.
