Vehicle, deer collide along Interstate 81

A vehicle and a deer collided along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County on Thursday.

State police at Frackville said Carmelo E. Caban, 55, of Allentown, was driving a 2012 Nissan Versa northbound in Wayne Township about 10 a.m. when a deer entered the road from the west side and ran across both northbound lanes. Caban attempted to avoid the animal but could not and struck it with the front left bumper and fender. After impact the deer was thrown up onto the hood and into the windshield breaking it. The deer came to rest along the shoulder, then got up and ran off, troopers said.

Caban was not injured.
