Sugarloaf man cited for DUI

Peter Damato III of Sugarloaf was cited as a result of a traffic stop in McAdoo on Nov. 6.

Officers were on patrol at 10:35 p.m. when a black Dodge Dart, with heavily tinted windows, drove past them on South Kennedy Drive. They initiated a traffic stop and identified Damato as the driver.

A strong odor of marijuana wafted from the vehicle as the officers spoke with the driver. Damato initially blamed the smell on the "kids who had the vehicle earlier," but when officers noted he was exhibiting signs of possible drug use, he admitted to smoking pot earlier in the day.

He was given, and failed, field sobriety tests, earning him a citation for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
