Spring is just 58 days away

Although snow is on the horizon, if not already falling, it's never too early to think about spring.

Carbon County Master Gardeners will host its spring workshop, "It's Time to Plant," on March 26.

The event has been expanded to a full day this year, with morning and afternoon sessions.

It will take place at the Carbon County Environmental Education Center, 151 E. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill.

The cost is $6 for the morning session; $8 for the afternoon session; and $10 for the full day.

Scheduled presentations include:

• 10 a.m. Soils of Pennsylvania (Eileen East*)

• 10:45 a.m. Composting (Julie Foley*)

• 11:30 a.m. Vegetable garden design made easy (John Kupec)

• 12:15 p.m. Lunch break. Bring your own lunch. Water, coffee and tea will be provided.

• 1:15 p.m. Gypsy moths (Julie Foley)

• 2 p.m. Tomatoes seed to table (Diane Giffels)

*These presentations will be offered by a team of one experienced and one new Master Gardener

Displays will include:

• Worm farm

• Emerald ash borer and Asian longhorn beetle - the survival of the forest

• Herb garden

• Stormwater control and run off

• Pollinators
