Reading man picked up in Tamaqua

A traffic stop on July 8 earned a Reading man a trip to the county prison.

Tamaqua Police were monitoring traffic at 8:48 a.m., as part of an aggressive driving campaign, when a gold Honda sped past them traveling 61 mph in the 45 mph zone along Route 309 in the area of Owl Creek Road. The Honda was stopped at the Speedway station and the driver identified as Julio Ortiz Jr., 42, of Reading.

A records check discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest, issued by Reading City Police.

Ortiz was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville until the Berks County Sheriff's office was able to transfer him.

He was also cited for speeding.
