Tractor-trailer lane needed

Published July 30. 2016 09:02AM

Dear editor,

In my opinion, I feel that tractor-trailers should have a lane all to themselves on the highway. I feel this way for the following reasons:

1. The tractor-trailers take up a lot of space, usually about 2-3 car lengths.

2. The governor on a tractor-trailer is limited to 63 mph on most tractor-trailers even though the speed limit on some highways is 70 mph.

3. When driving behind a tractor-trailer, it makes it very difficult for vehicles behind them to see anything in front, so if there is a car crash ahead and the tractor-trailer driver has to slam on the brakes and possibly jackknifes, the vehicles behind can possibly end up in a multiple car pileup. I feel that, for the reasons I have stated above, it is a major safety concern for all vehicles on the road, and that is why, in my opinion, tractor-trailers should have their own lane that they have to stay in. Thank you for reading my opinion in this matter.

Sincerely,

Donovan Beers
