Local pollinator gardens and events

Six area gardens and educational centers will host events on National Pollinator Week's celebration day in Carbon County.

Events and locations include:

Carbon County Environmental Education Center

151 E. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill

11 a.m. to 2 p.m., master gardener perennial herb garden open; herb sale.

Penn State Extension Office

529 Lentz Trail, Jim Thorpe

11 a.m. to 2 p.m., master gardener certified pollinator demonstration garden open.

Lehigh Gap Nature Center

8844 Paint Mill Road, Slatington

10 a.m. to 3 p.m., native plant sale, demonstrations, crafts, honey tastings.

10:30 a.m., butterfly walk.

1 p.m., talk on bee diversity.

1:30 p.m., talk on bee-friendly properties.

2 p.m., guided tour of gardens and native plants.

Beltzville Lake Park & Friends of Beltzville

2950 Pohopoco Drive, Lehighton

1 p.m., talk on trees and pollinators

2 p.m., tree walk with a national forester

Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary

18 Church Road, Jim Thorpe

11 a.m. to 5 p.m., live butterflies and hourly programs (admission fee is charged)

Penn Kidder Library and Visitor Center

Pine Point Plaza, 2589 Route 903, Albrightsville

10 a.m. to 3 p.m., certified pollinator garden open

2 p.m., pollinator talk

The day is sponsored by the Lehigh Gap Nature Center and the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce.
