Published June 13. 2016 11:52AM

Daniel J. Schaller, 37, of 533 E. Patterson St., Lansford, was cited by Tamaqua police after he tried hitchhiking while drunk.

Officers saw Schaller at 2:30 a.m. Wednesdayas he staggered along East Broad Street with his thumb in the air. When no one stopped to give him a lift he walked into the street and narrowly avoided being struck by a passing vehicle.

He did get a ride, from police, who took him to the station.

A records check turned up an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear in court to answer to driving under the influence charges.

He then went for a longer ride, to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
