Suspicious activity results in capture

A report of a suspicious person in Tamaqua ended up with the man being turned over to Luzerne County authorities.

According to police, officers responded to the 300 block of West Broad Street around 8 p.m.June 17 for a complaint about suspicious activity.

Police said they found a white man sitting on the sidewalk at 314 W. Broad. According to police the man was swaying back and forth and talking to himself.

He was identified as Dennis Helfrich, 44, of 425 Railroad St., Tamaqua. Helfrich told police he was not in need of medical help but was tired.

A check for warrants found Helfrich the subject of a felony retail theft warrant by state police at the Hazleton barracks.

Helfrich was turned over to their custody for processing.
