NJ man faces DUI charges after driving into brick wall
A New Jersey man faces two counts of driving under the influence after he crashed into a brick wall at a Nesquehoning business last year.
On Dec. 31, Nesquehoning police were notified of a crash near the area of Kovatch Mobile Equipment on Route 54 in the borough.
Upon investigation, officers found that a blue Dodge Caravan crashed into three brick retaining walls outside KME plant 3. The impact forced a number of the bricks into the eastbound lane of 54.
The vehicle had extensive front end damage and air bags were deployed in the collision. The driver, identified as Louis F. Buono II, 53, of 16 Barnt Ave., Trenton, was also standing near the vehicle.
Officer Richard Neikam observed Buono having trouble getting his license out of his wallet and moving slowly during the conversation. At first, he attempted to hand his bank card to Neikam.
Neikam asked Buono if he had anything to drink, which he responded that he did. He was subjected to field sobriety tests and failed the first before telling officers he couldn't complete the rest.
He was arrested and taken to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus for a blood sample.
Marouchoc's Auto towed the vehicle from the scene and Nesquehoning Fire Company assisted.
Toxicology results showed Buono's blood alcohol content was 0.254, 0.174 above the legal limit.
He was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30.
