A New Ringgold man was charged by Tamaqua police after a traffic stop on March 12.

An officer on patrol at 2:33 a.m. saw a green Volkswagen Jetta being operated in an erratic manner on Greenwood Street. After reversing onto Mauch Chunk Street, the Jetta's driver drove on the wrong side of the street and made several turns before stopping to pick up a passenger at Biddle and Market streets.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Market Street and identified the driver as Nicholas John Toth, 21, of 41 Municipal Road. Toth appeared to be intoxicated. He was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests.

Toth was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center - S. Jackson Street in Pottsville, where he refused to submit to a blood test.

He and his passenger were both transported to Leiby's parking lot in South Tamaqua where West Penn Township police picked them up and provided them with a ride home.

Toth was charged with DUI of alcohol and failure to use a turn signal.
