Teen is cited in burning incident

Published March 21. 2016 05:19AM

Tamaqua police cited a 15-year-old male from New Ringgold after a March 9 burning incident.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Bowe and South streets at 5:10 p.m. after juveniles were seen burning items within the borough limits. When police arrived the New Ringgold teen immediately admitted burning excess gas from an all-terrain vehicle. The fire created scorched earth at the bottom of a PPL utility pole, but did not set the pole on fire. The teen apologized and was warned about the dangers of his actions.

After checking the Visual Alert system the officer found the teen had previously received a citation involving the use of illegal fireworks and issued the teen a citation for dangerous burning-arson.
