Traffic stop leads to drug charges
A traffic stop by Tamaqua police on Feb. 20 led to multiple charges being filed against a Coaldale man.
An officer on patrol at 2:07 a.m. saw a blue Toyota Tacoma with a nonworking passenger side headlight headed east on Route 209. When the officer activated the cruiser's lights the Toyota's driver pulled off to the side of the road, barely missing a ditch.
The driver was identified as Anthony Yost, 33, of 24 E. Ridge St. Yost appeared to be under the influence and admitted having several alcoholic beverages at a Tamaqua bar. He was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests, then transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale for a blood test.
Yost's truck was searched before being towed by Hope's Towing of Tamaqua. Inside officers found a pink bag filled with green vegetable matter and a white bag with a white crystalline residue.
Test results indicate Yost had a blood alcohol content of 0.087 percent.
He was cited for DUI of alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to have working headlights.
