Pottsville man is cited with DUI after Tamaqua traffic stop
A Pottsville man was cited by Tamaqua police after he ran a red light at the intersection of Broad and Nescopec streets on Feb. 13.
Officers were on patrol at 1:57 a.m. when they saw a black GMC Sierra traveling west on Broad Street. The truck's license plate was covered by snow.
The Sierra failed to stop for a red light and was stopped by officers near the intersection of Broad and Swatara streets.
The driver was identified as Ryan Christopher Ventresca, 33, of 515 Willow St. He appeared to be intoxicated and was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests.
Ventresca was then transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street in Pottsville for blood tests.
Test results show he had a blood alcohol content of 0.171 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
He was transported to his home and released into the custody of his mother.
Police charged him with DUI of alcohol, running a red light and driving with an obscured license plate.
