Why spend money on potting soil and fertilizers when you can make your own? Recycle your fruit and vegetables scraps, coffee grounds, egg shells, grass clippings, leaves and more into rich soil for planting. Composting will reduce waste and your cost for disposal.

The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority will hold free composting classes on the second Saturday of the month in April, May, June, September and October at the waste authority facility in Blakeslee. Classes start at 9 a.m. and last approximately 1½ hours. Composter bins will be available to purchase at cost. A certified Master Gardener will be teaching the classes.

To participate, you must register with the Monroe County Waste Authority. Classes are limited to 20 people.
