Think about the environment

Published May 07. 2016 09:01AM

I'm a student at Penn State University and took a geography course this semester. I have learned a lot about how humans can affect the environment in negative ways. Sometimes this is by doing everyday activities that we never even give a second thought to, such as driving our vehicles.

It's amazing how many toxins are released into the air from just driving around town. This not only affects the world we live in today but will affect it for future generations. It is important to consider ways to help preserve the environment.

Limiting the number of times you take your vehicle one way and maybe riding a bike, walking or taking public transportation whenever possible could be an option. You'll not only be decreasing the amount of air pollution which will help the environment and health conditions, but you'll also be gaining some additional health benefits if you choose biking or walking for transportation.

Starting on a small scale, working on an individual level is a must. However, working on preserving the environment on a larger, community level is the ultimate goal. Anything that the township itself can do to help this along will be ideal. Maybe educational programs or incentives for the citizens can work toward achieving this goal. Always consider how your actions can influence the environment and make the choices that will have the most positive impact.
