Pennsylvania 10th best state for nurses
With National Nurses Week kicking off today and the nursing industry expected to grow faster than any other occupation through 2024, the personal-finance website WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2016's Best & Worst States for Nurses.
Analysts compared the attractiveness of the 50 states and the District of Columbia to nurses. It did so using 14 key metrics such as "monthly median starting salary for nurses," "number of health care facilities per capita" and "nursing job openings per capita."
Pennsylvania ranked the 10th best state for nurses overall. It ranked 21st for opportunity and 16th for work environment.
According to the study for working and living as a nurse in Pennsylvania, the rankings are:
• 19th for monthly median starting salary, adjusted for cost of living
• 14th for number of health care facilities per capita
• 11th for projected elderly population by 2030
• 28th for nursing-job openings per capita
• 5th for medically underserved areas
• 20th for average number of work hours
