Diabetes self-management training, support program
Blue Mountain Health System will offer a series of classes on Diabetes Self Management Training and Support on four Wednesdays, June 1, 8, 15 and 22, in the third-floor conference room at the Palmerton Campus, 135 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.
The course will be facilitated by Susan Generose, diabetes care coordinator at BMHS. It will cover meal planning: how to count carbohydrates and plan healthy meals; exercise ideas: tips to keep active and find time to work out; the basics of monitoring: how to check your blood sugar, oral medications and insulin; complications: review ways to prevent neuropathy, eye disease, kidney problems and foot problems; and changing behaviors: stress and coping, and resources for people with diabetes.
Medicare Part B covers 10 hours of initial group classes for a beneficiary who has been diagnosed with diabetes and/or who has not had formal training in the past.
