A Monroe County man has been charged following a domestic incident.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said at 11:54 p.m. on Friday officers responded to 1093 Tobyhanna Road in Tobyhanna for a domestic incident.

Police said Joseph Canell Williams, 28, of 603 Geraci Place, Tobyhanna, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and chased her with a knife. The woman had clear injuries from being struck and was able to escape and call police. When police arrived to take Williams into custody he fled in a vehicle. After a short pursuit into Wayne and Lackawanna counties Williams was stopped and taken into custody.

Police said Williams did not have a driver's license and exhibited signs of intoxication. He was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment, fleeing and eluding police, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and several motor vehicle code violations. Court records indicate he was arraigned on the charges and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post bail.
