Albright College student Ty Achtermann of Palmerton has received early acceptance into the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey.

Achtermann is a graduate of Palmerton Area High School. He has been admitted into the Early Assurance Program, an agreement between Albright and Hershey through which Albright students with a high grade-point average and standardized test scores can receive early acceptance to the medical school during their junior year.

Achtermann is a biology major and is considering cardiology. He will graduate in spring 2017 from Albright college a year early. Achtermann will begin at Hershey in the fall of 2018. He plans to spend his gap year training as an emergency medical technician. s

Despite the world still ahead of him, Achtermann says the early acceptance is a huge weight off his shoulders and he feels ready to tackle the rigors of medical school.

Hershey's early Assurance Program is highly competitive and open to candidates from a small number of Pennsylvania college and universities.
