Tricks with your treats
Trick or Treating is just around the corner, which means tons of candy given to your children and in your house.
Jennifer Gibson, nutritionist at Vida Health offers a few "tricks" to curb cravings for those "treats" this October.
• Be creative by creating a character: Have a "switch witch" who sneaks in on Halloween night and trades the kids candy for toys or money is just one example.
• Give kids the power then donate: Allow your kids to pick out a few favorite treats, then donate the rest to send to our military men and women overseas.
• Out of sight, out of mind: Keep candy in a high, out of the way place to help everyone forgot about it.
• It's all about limits: Set a limit on daily allowances and have an end date for candy. For example, let kids have one piece each night after dinner for the week after Halloween.
• Adults love candy too - set limits for everyone: Once you reach the limit for the kids, don't keep the candy in the house or the adults may be tempted to dig in once the kids are in bed. Decide on a removal plan to get it out of the house completely.
