Car avoids animal, crashes in Polk

A 17-year-old girl from Kunkletown sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 7:06 a.m. Friday on Mountain View Drive in Polk Township.

State police at Lehighton said she was driving a 2008 BMW Rendezvous east on Mountain View Drive when she swerved to avoid an animal on the roadway. The vehicle traveled onto a dirt embankment, crossed both lanes of travel and struck a large tree head-on.

The teen was transported from the scene by the Regional EMS for further treatment.

The car sustained heavy front-end damages and was towed.
