Managing diabetes

Blue Mountain Health System will offer a series of classes on diabetes self-management training and support on Sept. 22, 29, Oct. 6 and 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the ground floor community room at the Gnaden Huetten campus, 211 N. 12th St. in Lehighton.

The course will be facilitated by Susan Generose, diabetes care coordinator. It will cover meal planning, exercise ideas, the basics of monitoring, complications, changing behaviors and resources for people with diabetes.

Medicare Part B covers 10 hours of initial group classes for a beneficiary who has been diagnosed with diabetes and/or who has not had formal training in the past. Those with third party or commercial insurances should consult with their insurance provider for reimbursement details.
