Schuylkill cyclist seriously injured

A Schuylkill County motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Wednesday evening.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 6:27 p.m. along Deturksville Road in Washington Township.

Troopers said Douglas E. Campbell, 48, of Orwigsburg, was operating a 2002 Triumph Bonneville cycle eastbound behind a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 truck driven by Stephen H. Babb, 51, of Pine Grove. Babb slowed down to make a left turn into a private driveway while Campbell attempted to pass in the westbound lane. The cycle struck the driver side door of the Sierra.

Campbell was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to the Hershey Medical Center with suspected serious injuries, troopers said. Babb was not injured. The cycle was towed from the scene.
